INTRODUCING KOLAMBA EAST!
We are thrilled to share the exciting opening of Kolamba East at Liverpool Street! Our newly designed interiors are a true reflection of Sri Lanka’s rich cultural heritage, blending modern aesthetics with traditional artistry. Each element of our space has been thoughtfully curated to tell the story of Sri Lanka
Batik by Sonali Dharmawardena: Weaving Stories Through Fabric
We are proud to showcase the stunning Batik artwork of Sonali Dharmawardena, a designer who has revitalized this ancient Sri Lankan art form. Batik, with its wax-resist dyeing technique, is a craft deeply rooted in Sri Lankan culture, known for its bold colors and intricate patterns. Sonali’s work, featured throughout our restaurant, captures the essence of Sri Lanka's natural beauty and vibrant culture, blending traditional motifs with contemporary design.
Each piece was handcrafted by skilled artisans in Sri Lanka, embodying a fusion of heritage and modernity that mirrors Kolamba’s philosophy. These Batik artworks are more than just decor; they are a celebration of Sri Lanka’s cultural narrative, inviting our guests to immerse themselves in the island’s rich traditions.
Rattan Weaving: A Timeless Sri Lankan Craft
Adding to the authentic Sri Lankan ambiance of our restaurant, we have incorporated the timeless craft of rattan weaving. This traditional technique, which involves weaving natural fibers into intricate patterns, is a skill passed down through generations in Sri Lanka. Rattan is not only known for its durability and flexibility but also for its cultural significance, often seen in Sri Lankan homes as a symbol of warmth and hospitality.
The rattan furniture and decor pieces in Kolamba are handcrafted by local artisans, reflecting their dedication and craftsmanship. Each woven piece tells a story of connection to nature and cultural heritage, adding a unique, inviting touch to our interiors.
Upcycled Brass Antique Lamps by Glock Lanka and Carmen Perera
We are particularly excited to highlight our stunning upcycled brass antique lamps from Glock Lanka, designed by the talented Carmen Perera. Her journey into creating these beautiful pieces began as a personal passion project—designing lamps for her own home using locally available materials.
Carmen’s keen eye for design and her love for Sri Lanka’s rich artistic heritage led to the creation of Glock Lamp Manufactory, which now offers a wide range of bespoke, handcrafted lamps. Each lamp is a testament to her dedication to sustainability and craftsmanship, utilizing upcycled materials to create stunning pieces that illuminate homes across Asia.
Glock Lamps embodies a philosophy of empowering local artisans, collaborating with a diverse range of Sri Lankan craftsmen, including carpenters, brass foundry workers, iron smiths, cane weavers, and potters. This commitment to local craftsmanship aligns perfectly with our own values at Kolamba, where we strive to support and celebrate the talents of Sri Lankan artisans.
